Adoption Process & Info
Adding a new pet to your life is a big decision, and will likely involve some changes to your routine and home. That adorable kitten you've been eyeing sure is cute, but are you home enough to keep him from going stir crazy during the day so he doesn't drive YOU stir crazy at night? Ready to scoop a litter box every day? Similarly, puppies and dogs are wonderful companions, but they will need a continued commitment from you to socialize them, train them, play with them and walk them. Is your couch big enough for the two of you? Is it really a good idea to adopt a kitten for Grandma? Probably not, but don't worry, we have plenty of older animals that are sweet, mellow and looking for an owner just their speed. We strive to make great matches, and work very hard to get to know the animals in our care in order to place them in the appropriate home.
Adoption is a long-term commitment to give an animal everything it needs to be happy, healthy, and loved throughout the course of its life, and if you can't honestly offer that, then perhaps other options such as fostering or volunteering in another capacity might work. You get all the new animal "fix" without all the commitment.
Our adoption process is simple, and geared to make sure that the animal you take home is the right animal for you. Please contact us in person (see Locations page for addresses of adoption sites and hours when a volunteer will be available to help you) or via email if you are interested in adopting and we'll be happy to help you and answer any questions that you have.
Please bring the following with you if you wish to adopt:
Rental or Lease Agreement showing the pet policy at your residence
A little bit of patience - we need some time to chat with you and help sort out which animal(s) available would be best for you to look at. Sometimes the animal people intend to adopt isn't the best fit for their situation, so please do keep this in mind when coming in to adopt. We just might have EXACTLY the pet you're looking for in a slightly different color or age than you expected. An Open Mind is an Open Heart!
Adoption fee must be paid in cash or check - we do not have an ability to take a credit or debit card unfortunately.
Collar/Leash if you are interested in adopting a dog
Sturdy cat carrier if you're interested in adopting a cat
Smiles & Excitement
We do not adopt out of state, as we believe that there are likely wonderful animals in your community already that need homes. If you live outside of California and are interested in adopting a new pet friend, please contact your local animal shelter or SPCA.
